Denver's Community Health Improvement Plan Now Available

On February 4, Be Healthy Denver released Denver's Community Health Improvement Plan. Developed through a community-driven process, the Community Health Improvement Plan identifies two main areas of focus for citywide public health projects from now through 2018:

  • Access to Health Care, including Behavioral Health
  • Healthy Eating and Active Living, including the Built Environment

“This truly is a plan driven by and for our city,” says William Burman, MD, former director, Denver Public Health. “I’m confident that by working together as a community we will achieve our goals of increasing the number of Denver residents accessing medical care, as well as having more children in Denver at a healthy weight.”

Community members are invited to read the full Community Health Improvement Plan. Ongoing progress updates will be posted to

Expanding Access to Healthcare in Denver through the Affordable Care Act

Denver Public Health recognized the expansion of health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as a historic opportunity to increase coverage in Denver. Though there were challenges to the ACA's roll-out, Dr. Burman's recent post "Yes, We Can: Progress in Expanding Health Insurance in Denver" on The Colorado Trust's blog, showcases Denver's success in enrolling more than 22,000 residents in the new forms of coverage between October 1 and December 31, 2013.
