Denver's Community Health Improvement Plan Now Available
On February 4,
Be Healthy Denver released Denver's Community Health Improvement Plan. Developed through a community-driven process, the Community Health Improvement
Plan identifies two main areas of focus for citywide public health projects from now through 2018:
- Access to Health Care, including Behavioral Health
- Healthy Eating and Active Living, including the Built Environment
“This truly is a plan driven by and for our city,” says William Burman, MD, former director, Denver Public Health.
“I’m confident that by working together as a community we will achieve our goals of increasing
the number of Denver residents accessing medical care, as well as having more children in Denver at a healthy weight.”

Expanding Access to Healthcare in Denver through the Affordable Care Act
Denver Public Health recognized the expansion of health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as
a historic opportunity to increase coverage in Denver. Though there were challenges to the ACA's roll-out, Dr. Burman's recent
post "Yes, We Can: Progress in Expanding Health Insurance in Denver" on The Colorado Trust's blog, showcases Denver's success in enrolling more than 22,000 residents in the new forms of coverage between October 1 and December 31, 2013.
