Denver Prevention Training Center

Nationally recognized for its training, technical assistance, and consulting services, the Denver Prevention Training Center (PTC) has been assisting the public health and healthcare workforce since 1979.

A program of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health, the Denver PTC has racial equity at the core of its mission and values.

The Denver Prevention Training Center builds the capacity of public health and community professionals and their organizations to provide inclusive, responsive, equitable, and affirming health services.

Current Programs

Denver Disease Intervention Training Center (DITC) – The Denver PTC provides CDC-approved training to disease intervention specialists in the states of AL, AR, CO. FL. GA, LA, MS, NC, OK, SC, and TX.

HIV Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) – The Denver PTC provides training, technical assistance, and consultation to healthcare organizations and medical providers to improve HIV prevention services in the states of AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, and WY; as well as the directly-funded jurisdictions of Los Angeles and San Francisco; and six pacific island territories including American Samoa, Guam, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau.

NNPTC Coordination Center – The Denver PTC serves as the National Coordination Center for the National Network of STD Clinical Training Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC), which provides training, consultation, and technical assistance to improve sexually transmitted infection and sexual health services across the United States. As the National Coordination Center, the Denver PTC supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the NNPTC’s eight regional training centers with communication, planning, marketing, clinic consultation, and evaluation efforts.

STI Clinical Training Center – The Denver PTC is one of eight regional clinical training centers funded by the CDC to provide state-of-the-art clinical training to providers who diagnose, treat, and manage sexually transmitted infections. Our program is affiliated with the Denver Sexual Health Clinic, one of the region’s largest STD clinics. The STI Clinical Training Center serves the states of AR, CO, LA, MS, OK, TX, UT, and WY.

Racial Equity Services – The Denver PTC is a leader in bringing health and racial equity services to public health and healthcare programs, including the Denver PTC’s anti-racist clinical provider training.

Other Public Health Services – The Denver PTC has also provided a variety of additional programs including COVID prevention and vaccination efforts; mpox prevention, treatment, and immunization efforts; as well as assorted public health coalition-building, curriculum development, and training efforts.
