The flu, also known as influenza, is caused by germs that pass easily from one person to another. Unlike the common cold, the flu can be severe and even life-threatening. Each year, more than 200,000 people in the United States are hospitalized from medical problems that develop because they have the flu.The Influenza Vaccine is the single most essential step people can take to protect themselves and others against infection.

Pertussis in Denver

The number of people diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough) is up again in Denver and Colorado. In 2013, 159 people in Denver were diagnosed with Pertussis - more than three times as many as an average year! In 2012, there were 219 cases. This is a critical public health concern. Increasing HPV Vaccination Rates across Colorado

The Alliance for HPV Free Colorado is a regional collaborative led by Denver Public Health to increase human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates across five counties in the Denver metropolitan area. Members include Denver Public Health, Jefferson County Public Health, Tri-County Health Department, the Colorado Children’s Immunization Coalition, and the Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science. The project is funded by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Amendment 35 grant program to address cancer, childhood obesity, and tobacco use and exposure in and around Colorado.
